What is Extended Reality (XR)? Use of XR Technology

We are living in the age of technology, get acquaint with new technologies every day. Technology is making our lives easier just as it is surprising us. Virtual reality is diversifying in the same way that new technologies add to other technologies. So, Today I will talk about What is Extended Reality (XR)?

We are at a time where a great connection is make between the virtual world and the physical world. New technology is now making science fiction movies a reality. And right now the most advance version of virtual reality is Extended Reality or XR.

In today’s Article we will learn about What is Extended Reality (XR)? discuss its impact on the current world.

Integrating the physical world and the virtual world using new technology in general is called Extended Reality or XR. To put it more clearly, Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and Mixed Reality (MR) are collectively called Extended Reality.

For those of you who are familiar with the subject but don’t know, let’s take a closer look at Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and Mixed Reality (MR).

Virtual Reality:

Through Virtual Reality (VR), the user experiences a three-dimensional environment. To get that experience, users have to read different devices such as VR headsets, controllers, and gloves. Oculus Quest 2 is one of the most popular VR solutions on the market today.

In Virtual reality (VR) you will imagine yourself in another world and feel like you are doing certain things there, such as fighting with enemies in gaming.

Augmented Reality:

Augmented reality (AR) is a system where virtual experience and reality are use together. For example, bringing a certain design on the wall of your house, bringing forest animals and birds in your house. Aug Smart Reality experience through AR Smart Glass, Tablet, Mobile.

The main difference between Virtual reality (VR) and Augmented reality is that in Virtual reality you will not interact with any subject in the real world.

The filters of various social media apps, the hats on our heads, the stickers attach, these are basically Augment Reality (AR).

Mixed Reality:

Mixed reality (MR) is a hybrid technology of AR and VR. Here the gap between Virtual and Augmented Worlds is fill up. Here the digital world and the real world bring into one environment. So this is such an experience can take with an MR headset. Microsoft HoloLens is an MR headset.

Skype meeting with Microsoft HoloLens is an example of a mixed reality (MR). Where the user gets the experience of physical meeting.

Use of XR Technology in top industries

The XR market is getting bigger day by day and now almost all the industries are adopting this technology. Let’s take a look at some examples

Retailing and marketing:

Currently the retail sector is becoming smarter to consumers using XR. Now at Watch Box, customers are virtually realizing which watch will suit them better. Furniture company IKEA is launching the AR app through which customers can place virtual furniture in their homes.

Training and education:

The great use of XR can notice in various trainings. By Using technology, a person is train in those environments without put in a dangerous environment. Virtual experience is use to train pilots and firefighters in particular.

Real Asset:

The XR solution is use in the real asset business. Virtual tour experience provide to the customer through virtual reality. Users can turn to specific locations while sitting at home. Interested people can visit any house or flat without the help of any person.

Gaming is a great example of XR’s contribution to entertainment. People are not just playing games now sitting in front of the PC, they are taking real time experience in the games.

Apart from gaming, audiences are able to have a real experience sitting at home without going to various exhibitions and musical concerts.

The Challenges of XR Technology:

Although XR technology is a groundbreaking innovation, there are a number of challenges. Let’s get to know the challenges.

Data privacy issue:

XR technology collects and processes users’ personal data. The data can be, what you see, what you do, even your emotions. So it can be said that there is a possibility of a large number of data leaks. Sometimes sensitive information can go online.

So far all types of XR technology are quite expensive. It is much more expensive if different companies want to accept it, not just from the user’s point of view. Most companies are therefore afraid to invest in this sector. While the AR technology of smartphones is a bit less expensive in social media or other fields, virtual or mixed reality devices are still expensive.

Design and development:

XR devices are also in trouble when it comes to design or development, the first problem is to create a device that is comfortable for different users. Moreover, as VR and MR devices are relatively heavy, they can cause long-term use, headaches or discomfort to users.

More features will add to the devices to make them more acceptable to the users. Although HoloLens can control through various gestures and voice commands, gestures are limit to hand movements only.

The future of XR:

It is hope that future XR devices will give users a better and more personalized experience. Using the devices, people will be able to attend various events at home. It is possible now but it will improve in the future.

The idea is that out-of-home or OOH ads will be more specific through XR. For example, it will display special ads as you go through specific locations.

Experts say that various XR technologies will use to prepare people for natural disasters in the coming years.

We may also get our mobile phone, VR headset, AR Glass specific wearable XR device in the future so that everything will be included.

Real The use of XR technology is increasing day by day and most of the industries have already started adopting this technology. There may come a time when it will be difficult for us to grasp what is real and what is virtual. It can say that XR devices will be more effective and affordable.

As new technologies come along, there will be both good and bad aspects to all those technologies. Putting aside some of the bad aspects or challenges of XR technology, it can say one of the world’s leading technologies.

So that’s for today? Stay well till the next post and I think now we all know about What is Extended Reality (XR) and use of this technology.
