Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) has provided electricity connection to about 75 percent people of the country through its 80 associations. 5 distribution companies have provided electricity connection to the remaining 25 percent of customers. Dhaka Power Distribution Company supplies electricity to the capital and a large part of Narayanganj. Dhaka Electric Supply Company distributes electricity to a part of Dhaka and Savar and Tongi areas.

West Zone Power Distribution Company (Ozopadico) supplies electricity to Khulna and Barisal regions. Northern Electric Supply Company (NESCO) supplies electricity to Rangpur Rajshahi region. Bangladesh Power Development Board (PDB) supplies electricity to the rest of the country.

Out of the four off-grid areas under PDB, Dwip Upazila Sandwip, Hatia, Kutubdia, Ashuganj (Char Sonarampur) are working on electrification in off-grid areas. Besides, as 26 upazilas of the hilly regions are off-grid, electrification work is going on there as well.
